Universal Declaration of the Right to Be Rich and the Right to Be Poor

Preamble

Recognizing the inherent dignity and equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family as the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace in the world, and acknowledging the unique challenges and discriminations faced by individuals based on their economic status,

We, the peoples of the world, declare this Universal Declaration of the Right to Be Rich and the Right to Be Poor as a common standard of achievement for all people and all nations, to the end that every individual and organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind, shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these rights and freedoms and by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance.

Article 1: Right to Economic Autonomy

Every individual has the right to choose their economic path, whether it leads to wealth or poverty, without facing discrimination, social stigma, or coercion. This autonomy includes the freedom to pursue personal and professional endeavors that align with one's values and aspirations.

Article 2: Right to Equal Opportunity

All individuals, regardless of their economic background, shall have equal access to opportunities for education, employment, and entrepreneurship. Efforts shall be made to remove systemic barriers that hinder individuals from achieving economic success or maintaining a chosen lifestyle of simplicity.

Article 3: Right to Dignity and Respect

Every person has the right to live with dignity, whether they are rich or poor. Society must treat all individuals with respect, recognizing the intrinsic value of each person beyond their economic status. Policies and practices that promote respect and understanding between different economic groups shall be encouraged.

Article 4: Right to Basic Needs

Everyone, regardless of their economic situation, has the right to have their basic needs met, including access to adequate food, shelter, healthcare, and education. Governments and societies must ensure these needs are provided to all, without discrimination or prejudice.

Article 5: Right to Wealth Protection

Individuals who have accumulated wealth have the right to protect and manage their assets, provided it does not harm others or the environment. Wealth should be used responsibly, with an emphasis on ethical practices and contributing to the well-being of the broader community.

Article 6: Right to Voluntary Simplicity

Individuals who choose to live a life of voluntary simplicity or poverty shall not face discrimination or coercion to change their lifestyle. Their choices should be respected and supported, recognizing that different paths to fulfillment and contentment are valid.

Article 7: Right to Economic Security

Every individual has the right to economic security, ensuring that no one falls below a minimum standard of living. Social safety nets and support systems should be in place to protect individuals from economic exploitation and severe financial distress.

Article 8: Right to Participation in Economic Decision-Making

Individuals, regardless of their economic status, have the right to participate in economic decision-making processes that affect their lives. This includes involvement in community planning, policy-making, and governance structures that impact economic conditions.

Article 9: Right to Non-Discrimination

No person shall be discriminated against based on their economic status. This includes, but is not limited to, discrimination in employment, housing, education, healthcare, and public services. Anti-discrimination laws and practices must be enforced to ensure equal treatment for all.

Article 10: Right to Advocacy and Representation

Individuals have the right to advocate for their economic interests and have representation in economic policy discussions. This ensures that the voices of both the wealthy and the poor are heard and considered in the creation of fair and just economic policies.

This Declaration is a foundation for promoting economic justice and equality, recognizing that both wealth and poverty have their place in a diverse and equitable society. It calls for a balance where all individuals can pursue their economic goals freely, while ensuring that basic human rights are upheld and respected.
